The White Rosettes have swept the board and won gold medals in both the National and European Ladies Barbershop Chorus Championships in Bournemouth. At the same event, their Musical Director, Sally McLean also won gold in the National and European Female Quartet Championships, with SoundHouse. All this in the year the chorus celebrates its 40th anniversary!
The Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers (LABBS) holds an annual competition for choruses and quartets every October. The White Rosettes are the UK’s most successful ladies barbershop chorus, adding an unprecedented 16th national championship to their name at the weekend. Not only that, they also took gold in the European Barbershop Convention (EBC) ladies chorus competition on the 3rd successive occasion – another result without precedent.
EBC, Europe’s biggest barbershop event takes place every four years, attracting competitors from nine European countries, this year coinciding with LABBS in Bournemouth. The White Rosettes’ two regions golds were achieved in 2009 and 2013, when Holland Harmony hosted EBC.
“I am astounded at the results achieved at EBC,” says Sally McLean, “The White Rosettes are always committed to delivering their best, but it’s still hard to believe that it has brought us gold medals in both the National and European competitions! What a brilliant way to celebrate our 40th anniversary year!”
“SoundHouse are in shock with their National and European titles. These achievements are still sinking in. Just unbelievable!”
You can see The White Rosettes and SoundHouse in concert in Harrogate on 9th December. They will be performing in an end of year show along with Spirit of Harmony, the men’s barbershop chorus that is also directed by Sally McLean. The show also includes performances from two award-winning men’s quartets: Monkey Magic, who won the Men’s Barbershop Chorus National Championship in 2008, and the 2016 Youth Quartet Champions, 4 On Demand.
