Who are the White Rosettes?

The White Rosettes are a Leeds-based female barbershop chorus. In October 2022 they won the LABBS National Ladies Chorus Championship for an unprecedented 17^th time and have been European Ladies’ Barbershop Chorus Champions three times!

Under the direction of Sally McLean, The White Rosettes aim to push the boundaries of technical excellence, musicality and performance, and achieve this by entering prestigious national and international competitions and performing both in the UK and mainland Europe.  The chorus sings a range of styles, from strict barbershop, to jazz, gospel and show classics.

In 2024 The White Rosettes competed at the Barbershop Harmony Society International Contest in Cleveland becoming the first LABBS chorus ever to compete in this contest.

And at last night's AGM (drumroll please!) the certificates, trophies, badges and loudest cheers went to: our LABBS long service award winners - Fiona Skilling, Elaine Walker and Chris Cloxton; Our newest members - baris Charlotte Hill and Georgie Ford and lead Catherine Fernandez - were also presented with their full chorus badges. The Service Award went to Fiona Earnshaw; Committment went to Sally Cieslik (also voted in as our new Chair; the Alan Peech Award - given to someone from outside of the chorus in recognition of their support - went to Richard Pearson; Singing went to Oranna Speicher; the Jane Ford Performance Award went to Aru Morton; and Barbershopper of the Year was presented to Jean Lewis (outgoing PRO). Heartfelt thanks were passed on to outgoing Chair, Secretary and Treasurer - Holly Parker, Clare Enston and Andrea Banks.

It was our AGM last night (more to follow on that) and the first time we'd all had chance to be together with Zoe Gibson following the death of her lovely Mum, and our friend and riser-mate, supporter, fund-raiser and all around amazing, through and through barbershopper, Gail Grainger. We send our love and hugs and very best wishes to the whole family. Thanks for the many fabulous memories xx

Last night we celebrated service to the chorus by celebrating our two newest HLMs (honorary life members) - Margaret Swain (Swainy) and Aileen Dunlop. We had said our farewells to Aileen at our Christmas Party (which she organised, with a little help from some friends), but hadn't had chance to do the same for Margaret until last evening. We also took the opportunity to present her with her 40 years LABBS certificate. We also took the opportunity to give a cheer to our newest Assistant Section Leads - Lou Hough (Bari) and Natascha Cotterill-Smith (Tenor). Cheers all!
