Who are the White Rosettes?

The White Rosettes are a Leeds based women’s barbershop choir (referred to as a chorus). In October 2022 they won the LABBS National Ladies Chorus Championship for an unprecedented 17^th time and have been European Ladies’ Barbershop Chorus Champions three times!

We are running a Love to Sing course in Spring 2026 – for more details click here. You can attend a four week FREE course which will introduce you to barbershop singing.

Under the direction of Sally McLean, The White Rosettes aim to push the boundaries of technical excellence, musicality and performance, and achieve this by entering prestigious national and international competitions and performing both in the UK and mainland Europe.  The chorus sings a range of styles, from strict barbershop, to jazz, gospel and show classics.

In 2024 The White Rosettes competed at the Barbershop Harmony Society International Contest in Cleveland becoming the first LABBS chorus ever to compete in this contest.

If you would like to come and visit us please contact us first to check we are at our normal venue – we sometimes go on our travels and wouldn’t want you to have a wasted journey! You can do this by emailing  membership@whiterosettes.org.uk.

The White Rosettes rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7.30pm at St John’s Church Hall (St John’s Church, Dixon Lane Road, Leeds, LS12 4RU). Click here for the Google map link to the location

🎶 We had a fantastic time on Saturday performing at the Harrogate festival of Music. We competed in the Barbershop class and were thrilled to be placed first.

We loved performing alongside Abbey Belles Chorus and Spirit of Harmony - Men's Barbershop Chorus 👏

Huge thanks to Jenny who was our MD for the day and did a truly wonderful job 🫶🏻

A special shout out to Sugar Rush Quartet who competed and were placed first in the quartet category 🥇 They were commended for their lovely voice blend and storytelling performances.

And we were very proud of newly formed ‘Dixon Lane’ quartet on their first outing - got a wonderful adjudication. They only joined forces a few months ago so watch this space! You absolutely did ‘Shine’! 🌟

A fabulous day had by all !!

🌸 International Women’s Day – celebrating The White Rosettes 🌸

Next year The White Rosettes turn 50.

And our story started in a way that feels very fitting for International Women’s Day.

Back in the early days of barbershop in Yorkshire, the men formed a chorus… and during rehearsals the wives gathered nearby, making tea and cakes during the breaks.

Until one day someone said:

“Why don’t we start our own chorus?”

And they did.

What began as a group of women coming together to sing has grown into one of the most successful barbershop choruses in the UK.

Over the years The White Rosettes have achieved many things including:

🥇 17 UK Championship Gold Medals
🌍 Three European Championship titles
🇺🇸 Representing the UK on the international stage

And in 2024 we travelled to the USA, becoming the first British women’s chorus to represent the UK at the International Barbershop Championships #makinghistory

From tea and cakes… to international stages.

Now that’s progress. 🎶

At the heart of our success is our incredible Musical Director Sally McLean - a woman who inspires, challenges and develops us every single rehearsal.

Sally’s dedication to the barbershop genre is unmatched, and her work supporting choruses right across the UK continues to raise the standard for everyone.

And a huge thank you to LABBS - the Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers who make it possible for women across the UK to enjoy the magic of barbershop harmony.

So today we celebrate the women who started it all, the women who sing today, and the generations who will follow.

Here’s to 50 years of harmony.

And to the next 50. 🎶

🎶 We have completed week 3 of our ‘Love to Sing’ course 🎶

Amazing progress made by the wonderful new barbershop singers on our risers as we indoctrinate them in the craft and the love of our music.

(Life will never be the same for them, will it?!)

🎶 LOVE TO SING 💞

We had such a fantastic start to our Love to Sing course last night 👏

We sold out at 40 attendees … so our lovely rehearsal venue was full and buzzing with our new found friends!

And lots of cake 🍰 of course!

A fabulous evening sharing our love of barbershop.

Well done to the music team and committee who’ve all worked so hard to organise this great event - next week we will share some sound bites of the song we’re learning together!
